ROOT CANALS
What is a root canal?
A root canal is a dental procedure performed to repair and save a decayed or infected tooth.
How does it work?
The process involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the nerve tissue, also known as the pulp) and disinfecting it. Once cleaned, the inside of the tooth is filled and sealed. If the infected nerve is left untreated, it can lead to pain, swelling, infection, or even an abscess.
Do I need a root canal?
While symptoms may not always be present, you might experience one or multiple of the following issues:
• Intense toothache pain chewing
• Strong sensitivity to hot and/or cold temperatures
• Tooth discoloration
• Gum swelling around the infected area
• Pimples on the gums
Is it painful?
Contrary to popular belief, root canals are not very painful. Modern technology has made root canal treatment as manageable as getting a filling.
